Post subject: Bextra and Stevens Johnson Syndrome/PMR

I was prescribed BEXTRA for severe back pain last summer and after a week, I developed a severe rash all over my body. I spent the next six days in bed taking benedryl because I did not know then that I was in danger. After this episode, I developed PMR with which I am still contending. Has anyone else developed PMR after taking BEXTRA? It really is a horrible drug.

Post subject: Bextra, did it send me to the hospital?

I'm 32 yrs. old in Sept of this year I had surgery and was put on Bextra for cramps that I had after. I was given Bextra with an order of 20mg 2 X a day for cramps(pain). After taking it only 3 X I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance because I could hardly breath my heart was beating out of my chest and my blood pressure was really high. On the way to the hosp. they ran and IV, put me on Oxygen, and gave me a NITO pill. I took about 3 of those all together between the Ambulance and ER before my blood pressure came down. The whole time all this was going on I was telling them I felt like it was the pain medicine. The ER never even consider it instead they took info on a decongestion that I have been taking for years and took my allergist name. They never even called my OB doctor who did the surgery just 2 days before. I was in the hosp. for the weekend and released with nothing wrong according to them. No I have high blood pressure that I haven't had in over 2 yrs after I lost 60lbs. I can't afford to go to the doctor because I have surgery bills and now hospital bills. How and what do I do to find out that Bextra was the problem.

Post subject: Bextra Rash

I recommend you perform a web search for Bextra and read all about it. There is a lot of information about Bextra on the web, specifically relating to the MANY problems it has caused people. I took Bextra for only about 2 weeks -- soon I developed red, hot lesions on my toes and on my hands, then a horrible rash and increasing redness in my hands and feet. Within only a few weeks, my fingernails and toenails started becoming detached and huge chunks of dead skin fell off of my hands and feet. I had swelling and rash almost all over my body, including my eyes. That is not the entire story, but I am now disabled. Be sure to do the search and read about Bextra. If you hear of anyone who is taking it, warn them against it. It can actually kill some people and cause horrible suffering, such as what I went through. I am filing a lawsuit against the doctor who gave Bextra to me and against the company who manufactures it -- Pfizer/Pharmacia.

Post subject: Bextra and the ER

I have been on bextra for some time now as an alternative to naproxyn and ibuprofen. Over the past several years of taking it, I have had recurring cellulitis, phlebitis and sepsis. Most requiring trips to E.R. and/or stays in the hospital for IV antibiotics. This past episode (just a few weeks ago) required multiple regimens of antibiotics, i.e., augmentin oral, rocefin IV, levaquin IV, and finally levaquin oral upon hospital dismissal. Four days ago I started itching all over the entire upper half of my body including the palms of my hands. The vascular surgeon overseeing my cellulitis care asked me what other prescription medications I was taking. When I mentioned bextra, he immediately stopped me and told me to get off the antibiotics saying it could be a reaction. I have been off the antibiotics now for 3 days and after hearing the news today about bextra have decided to quit taking it as well. I am hoping the agonizing itching goes away soon. Hydroxazine and benedryl lesson the symptoms to a degree, but can't stop it entirely.
I am also curious if anyone else has had circulatory problems they believe could be linked to bextra. Mine has become so chronic, I have three physicians telling me I am now disabled and no longer able to hold a job which either requires sitting or standing for any length of time. Needless to say, I am besides myself wondering if this medicine has brought me to this point in my life.
Am interested to hear from anyone who has had similar situations.
Thanks...
