Erythema Multiforme Treatment

FREE Case Review
Because erythema multiforme is a relatively mild skin disorder, doctors have several simple treatment options. In situations where erythema mutiforme is caused by conditions other than a viral infection, such as an allergic reaction from Bextra, doctors usually pursue one of several treatments:

• Moist compresses applied directly to skin lesions
• Antihistamines to control itching
• Over-the-counter pain relievers to reduce fever and discomfort
• Topical anesthetics to ease discomfort that interferes with eating and drinking caused my mouth lesions

For more severe symptoms:

• Hospitalization and treatment to prevent progression into Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis
• Body-wide corticosteroid drugs to reduce inflammation
• Intravenous immunoglobulins (IVIG) to stop the process
• Antibiotics to control secondary skin infections

With the proper treatment, erythema multiforme is manageable and less dangerous. Follow any directions your doctor gives you, for if left untreated erythema multiforme can easily develop into much more fatal conditions
