Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis is a medical emergency. Because TENS rarely spontaneously occurs, most victims are already under medical care to treat Steven-Johnson’s Syndrome.
Treating TENS is much similar to treating SJS. Doctors will attempt to prevent any further skin loss by reducing the concentration of Bextra in the body, which relieves a great deal of pain and also reduces the risk of infection caused by exposed tissues. Also, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs further reduce the risk of systemic, body-wide infection and the pain caused by the loss of skin. Lastly fluids are reintroduced into the body to prevent potentially fatal dehydration. The skin is left to re-grow, and doctors carefully monitor the new tissue for scarring or fibrosis (growing tough, immobile tissue.)
